The Help
The Help is a movie who has been directed and
written by Tate Taylor in 2011. This a drama film because through this film we
can see the horrible working conditions of the domestics during the 60’s.
Indeed, in this film there are Aibeleen and Minny who are two maids in
Mississippi. Aibeleen works for Elizabeth
and Minny for Hilly. At first, when Minny was fired she decided to go and work for
Celia Foote. Thereby, Skeeter decided to help the black maids by writing a book
so as to denounce their horrible condition. After the book was released, There
is been a scandal because the white women were shocked while the maids felt
supported and loved.
This movie allows us to be aware the
segregation during the 60’s. It shows the courage of black women because they
are really mistreated by the white people. Furthermore, we can see that black
and white people aren’t in the same equal footing while today there aren’t
differences about the skin color. Moreover this movie shows us the truth; it doesn’t
tries to hide the reality. Finally, it could be interesting to see how the
maids evolve after the end of the movie; if they are independent or if they
work again with the housekeeper.
We have chosen the scene of the movie when
Constantine speaks with Skeeter when she was young. During this scene,
Constantine explains to Skeeter that her mother looks like her but she doesn’t
dare express her opinion. She has feared of the other people in contrary
Skeeter who dare to express. At the end
of this scene, Constantine says that Skeeter will do big things later. So,
thanks to this scene we guess and understand the behavior of Skeeter during the
movie. This is a reason why we are chosen this scene.
