THE HELP
1)
The summary of the help
Firstly,
the movie takes place in Mississippi during the 60's. All the plot
is a confrontation between blacks and whites.
On
the one hand, the main character is Skeeter, an independent white
young lady, who belongs to a social group which is really wealthy and
where most of women are racists. Even if Skeeter comes from the upper
class, she isn't like her friends or her mother. Effectively, she
wants to become a journalist. Her determination and open mind will
help her.
On
the other hand, there are the black maids, who are segregated and
obey white employers' orders.
It's
the reason why, Skeeter wants to change. She doesn't agree with that
because she considers it unfair. She wants to change the rules to
improve the working conditions of the maids. So she would like blacks
and whites to be on an equal foot. To succeed in this ambitious
project, she will interview several maids in order to make an
article. The aim is to publish it in broad daylight.
2)
Criticism
of the movie
Secondly,
we are going to give our opinion about the film.
On
the one hand, we like a lot of things in the movie. Effectively, we
loved the several characters especially all the maids and Skeeter.
They were really determined to do their best in order to reach their
aim together. That's why they were really endearing. Then, we liked
the lovely baby who was grown up by warm hearted Aibeleen. Even if
her mother doesn't care about her. What's more, we loved Skeeter's
ambition and her understanding behaviour. It proves that she is
different and open-minded, it's a real life lesson.
On
the other hand we dislike when Yule May Dave was hurt by a policeman
with a truncheon. We can add that we didn't like when Constantine was
fired because of her great age and the pressure of the white girls
group on Skeeter's mother. It was a sad and affecting moment.
Thirdly,
this movies was quite realistic. Actually, the staging was really
good, some of the characters played key word for the success of this
film, such as Skeeter and Aibeleen. They deliver their feeling to us.
All of this, make this film realistic.
3)
An important scene
To
our mind, the most important and powerful scene was when all the
maids gathered in Aibeleen's lounge. Actually, Yule May was hurt by a
policeman, it caused the rebellion of all the other maids. That's
why, they decided to testimony about what they underwent to Skeeter
for the redaction of a revolutionary book.
At
the end they reach their purpose. The book was published, everybody
read it. This one denounce all the unfairness underwent by the maids
during uncountable decades and it represent a revenge for the black
women.
