THE HELP
The
help is a drama film that takes places in the Mississippi in the early 1960s,
directed and written by Tate Taylor in 2011. The story deals with a young white
woman, named Skeeter who is a journalist. She imagines this story to denounce
the segregation between black maid and wealthy women about the horrible working
conditions of the domestics during the 60’s.
Skeeter wants to write a book, about the domestics. For that she
interviews, firstly two domestics Aibileen and Minny. Finally there are a lot
of maids, who accept to tell their story.
The
help is very moving; but it’s surprising because it’s a mixt between humor and
drama. It is interesting because it shows the truth of the maids’ life during
the 60’s. Their lives were very difficult because their working conditions and
the treatment by the white women like Miss Hilly. Thanks to this film, we can
learn too much of the America history and the segregation during this time. The
actors interpret really well their roles. The casting is very wonderful. Emma
stone is very nice in the main female white character, in the role of Skeeter
Phelon. She interprets wonderfully the open-minded young lady. She is quite
rebel. Octavia Spenser is very good in the role of Minny Jackson; her character
is warm hearted woman like the person who was.
The
scene selected is the scene when Minny, Miss Hilly’s maid, gives a “chocolate”
pie to her. Miss Hilly is very happy about this present, but she doesn’t know
the surprise, the bad surprise. In reality, it’s not a delicious pie but a shit
pie. It’s a poisoned gift. In the beginning of this scene, Miss Hilly likes the
pie but when Minny tells her “Eat my shit” it was very funny. Indeed, Minny
finally took her revenge, and it’s that fact of the scene we enjoy. Miss Hilly
is caught out her own game. In seeking to separate the toilet’s maid and
toilet’s white people, finds himself to eat some shit.
Good choice for the scene, it's so funny !
